Buffalo vs. Chiefs Playoffs: Police Want Bills Mafia Out of 'The Pit'; What's 'Sacrifice' Urban Legend?

With fans reportedly "sacrificing" themselves at the construction site of New Highmark Stadium, the Buffalo Bills are offering further protection.

To paraphrase Sunday guest Taylor Swift, look what you made them do.

Security around the Buffalo Bills' new stadium project will be intensified come Sunday's AFC Divisional match against the Kansas City Chiefs (6:30 p.m. ET, CBS).

Buffalo (12-6) will have to play a perfect defensive game to get past the high-octane Kansas City offense and that apparently extends to the current Highmark Stadium grounds.

“We all want to see a Bills win on Sunday,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said, per Adam Gorski of WIVB. “Let’s keep the focus on the field and out of the parking lots.”

Though law enforcement wouldn't acknowledge rumors, the intensified security could be a response to an unsubstantiated rumor that fans are "sacrificing" themselves to the large hole near Highmark Stadium, one that is projected to give way to their next home in time for the 2026 season.

Such a rumor began at the birthplace of endless gossip, social media, which gave rise to the idea the Bills have posted an undefeated record in the form of an active six-game winning streak since a fan fell into the supposed foundation. Fans have supposedly kept the tradition alive in the ensuing weeks, which have placed the Bills at the cusp of their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994.

Alas for the superstitious in Western New York, there's been only one verified instance of invading the stadium's construction site and it came in September, shortly after the Bills took down Las Vegas by a 38-10 final in their home opener. Even with the idea of sacrifice mostly standing as an urban legend for the time being, it appears that Erie County law enforcement isn't taking any chances.
