Sour Grapes? Bills Need More Draft Picks, Anonymous 'Rival Scout' Tells Expert

Moving the No. 27 overall NFL Draft pick is possible for the Buffalo Bills as they may try to acquire more draft picks to help fill needs.

Could trading down be the most likely possibility for the Buffalo Bills in the upcoming NFL Draft?

Not only has general manager Brandon Beane publicly stated that they are more likely to move down than up the draft board in his pre-draft press conference, but with their current needs, it may be tough for the Bills to make a selection at No. 27 overall.

Then there is a notion that maybe the Bills don't have the required draft capital to make the additions they need. Or at least that was the opinion in a recent ESPN mock draft.

"[The Bills] have six picks and a lot more needs than that," a 'rival area scout,' told ESPN draft expert Matt Miller.

Is it sour grapes from one of the Bills' rivals or the hard truth? One can argue for either side.

Yes, Buffalo would love more draft picks and be in a situation similar to the Philadelphia Eagles, who have two first-rounders. At the same time, others would say that they shouldn't be desperate to make any move.

Despite this tidbit, Miller still had the Bills making their selection since he opted not to make any mock trades. ESPN projects the Bills to select TCU receiver Quentin Johnston. Miller cites that the Bills need more cheap play-makers to surround quarterback Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, seeing as though current No. 2 target Gabe Davis is entering a contract year.

"Johnston, a 6-3 target with downfield speed and the hands to excel in 50-50 situations, could give Allen another vertical target."

- Matt Miller

Johnston's speed and size are intriguing for a Bills offense that struggled to create through the air when the defense took away Diggs. Adding the Horn Frog would certainly give the Bills another threat on the perimeter. He could create not only as a downfield target but also contribute in the quick passing game where the Bills could utilize his speed.

But if the Bills are still looking to add to their draft capital, other analysts believe that Johnston could slip into the second round. A recent mock from The Athletic had the Texans taking him with the No. 33 overall pick. In that case, maybe the Bills can still move back in the draft and select Johnston.
