Bills WR Stefon Diggs Could Lose Nearly $100k for Missing Minicamp

Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs is subject to a near-six-figure fine if he continues to miss mandatory minicamp.

The Buffalo Bills and star receiver Stefon Diggs have dominated headlines to start the week, but not for the reasons they would've liked.

Instead, they've been in the news due to Diggs unexpectedly not attending the Bills' mandatory minicamp. Coach Sean McDermott said Diggs' absence is "very concerning," but the receiver's agent insisted that there is nothing to worry about. A very bizarre situation all around, and we're still left looking for answers.

While the reason for Diggs' absence isn't known, it seems like it isn't related to his contract. The star receiver just signed a hefty extension last offseason that makes him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league, and makes it all but impossible to trade him. That said, Diggs' absence could still have major financial implications.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, any player who misses the first day of mandatory minicamp is subject to a fine of $16,459. That fine jumps to $32,920 if they miss the second day, then $49,374 for missing the third. If Diggs does miss all three days, then the total fine could be nearly $100,000.

Of course, that's if Buffalo decides to enforce those fines. The Bills could easily waive those fines and they it would all mean nothing. If Diggs missing minicamp has to do with his relationship with the team, it's probably not a great idea to fine him nearly $100,000.

As Diggs' absence continues to raise questions, we eagerly await any potential answers in this confusing situation.
