Bills Ex Steve Christie Loses Super Bowl Record Twice in Niners vs. Chiefs
The Buffalo Bills' place in Super Bowl history is one of infamy, as their streak of four straight losses in the big game throughout the early 1990s will likely never be matched.
That said, a select few Bills have a lasting, positive legacy on the game's biggest stage. One such player is former Bills kicker Steve Christie, who drilled a 54-yard field goal in the team's 30-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
For 30 years, the Ontario-born kicker held the record for the longest made field goal in Super Bowl history... until Sunday night, that is.

Christie, 56, could only watch as his record was broken not once, but twice in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday. San Francisco 49ers rookie Jake Moody was the first to do so, nailing a 55-yard field goal early in the second quarter to score the game's first points. Then in the third quarter, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a 57-yard field goal to make it a four-point game.
What may be more surprising than Christie's record falling is the fact that barely any kickers have even had the chance to break it. According to CBS Sports, the only field goal attempt of 54+ yards between the time Christie set the record and it being broken came in Super Bowl XL, when Seattle Seahawks kicker Josh Brown missed a 54-yarder against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Moody may have seen his record last less than an hour of real time, but he did set another record later on. The third-round rookie out of Michigan also made a 53-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, becoming the first player in Super Bowl history to make two kicks of 50+ yards in the same game.
The Chiefs went on to win the game 25-22 in overtime, only further widening the gap between them and other AFC teams like the Bills.
