Bills 'Wildly Talented'; But 'Bona Fide' Super Bowl Contenders?

The Buffalo Bills are once again Super Bowl favorites, with CBS Sports naming them one of the best teams in the AFC.

There is no denying that the Buffalo Bills enter this season among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. After all, one look at their roster and any potential doubts about their championship expectations will be squashed.

The question, though, becomes just how serious of a contender are the Bills in 2023. Depending on who you ask, that answer varies ever so slightly. Most analysts consider them one of the top dogs in the AFC, with CBS Sports placing them in the "bona fide Super Bowl contenders" tier - alongside the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals.

"The Buffalo Bills have the second-best odds to win the AFC at the moment and still have a wildly-talented roster, headlined by MVP candidate (and Madden NFL cover athlete) Josh Allen," CBS Sports writes.

Allen, of course, leads one of the best offenses in the NFL. He has a stable of elite weapons to work with, headlined by the dynamic receiver duo of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. They aren't the only duo he has either, as tight end Dalton Knox and rookie Dalton Kincaid give him two more capable pass catchers.

The Bills also addressed the running back room this offseason, signing Damien Harris in free agency, who will join James Cook to bolster a running game that showed potential last season.

Not to be outdone, the other side of the ball is just as elite for the Bills, having only seen the loss of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in free agency this offseason.

"Buffalo had a top-five defense last year and that was with Von Miller missing time due to a season-ending ACL injury," CBS Sports writes. "With him back and the team retaining safety Jordan Poyer in free agency, this defense should continue to rank highly throughout the league."

Miller's return and retaining Poyer will go a long way for the Bills defense this season, one that was the second-best scoring defense last year after holding opponents to 17.9 points per game on 300.4 yards of total offense.

While the Bills have come up just short in the playoffs in recent history, that has no bearing on this season. The pieces are there, however, and it wouldn't be surprising if they finally get over the hump and lift the coveted Lombardi Trophy.
