Analysis
All in all, the schedule shaped up in a very favorable way for the Broncos, relative to the collection of 2023 opponents. And the NFL seems to be buying what Payton is selling, awarding Denver with four primetime games this season.
The Broncos will have a viable shot at hitting the ground running in the first quarter of the season with four consecutive games that are very winnable. If it goes well, the Broncos will have built up a nice head of steam and some confidence to face what is a much stiffer challenge in the second quarter of the season, with a matchup with Aaron Rodgers and two vs. Patrick Mahomes and company.
Then Denver gets its bye, which, fortuitously, comes smack-dab in the middle of the season in Week 9. From there, it's again a relatively favorable third quarter of the season, with the exception being Week 10 at Buffalo.
It all serves to put the Broncos in a nice position to compete for the playoffs down the stretch, with two matchups with the Chargers, the Lions, Patriots, and Raiders to close out the season. The final five games of the schedule include three divisional matchups, which could prove crucial in the AFC playoff arithmetic.
