Broncos Release OLB Jacob Martin

The move saves $3.8 million against the cap.

In what was likely a financially-motivated decision, the Denver Broncos released outside linebacker Jacob Martin, the team announced Wednesday.

The transaction creates roughly $3.8 million in salary-cap savings, leaving behind $1 million in dead money, according to OverTheCap.com.

Martin, 27, was acquired from the New York Jets last November for a 2024 fourth-round pick; Denver also got back a 2024 fifth-rounder. The move was made ahead of the NFL trade deadline, subsequently after the Broncos dealt starting OLB Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins.

Martin appeared in five games for the Broncos, registering four solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack across 108 defensive snaps. He was placed on injured reserve in December and underwent surgery to repair a longstanding patellar tendon issue.

Though not shocking, Martin's departure whittles down a top-heavy yet largely unproven edge-rushing corps led by Randy Gregory, Baron Browning, and Nik Bonitto. Behind them are Jonathon Cooper, Christopher Allen, Aaron Patrick, and undrafted rookie Thomas Incoom.

Perhaps Martin returns on a reduced contract, or another veteran 'backer is added in the coming weeks — such as reigning XFL sack leader Trent Harris, whom the Broncos invited to this weekend's rookie minicamp.
