Report: 'No Way' Broncos Trade for Vikings RB Dalvin Cook

It's possible they express interest if he's released.

Although the fit is sensible on paper, Dalvin Cook landing with the Denver Broncos is unlikely to become an actuality.

In fact, according to 9NEWS' Mike Klis, "there is no way" the Broncos trade for the Minnesota Vikings' star running back, "at least not without a restructured contract agreement."

Even then ...

"The Broncos have also traded away too many draft picks over the past two years, and they don’t have a second-round pick next year (Sean Payton hiring), so there doesn’t appear to be enough draft capital to satisfy the Vikings," Klis wrote in his latest mailbag.

Cook, who turns 28 in August, is due to count $14.1 million against the 2023 salary cap, more than Denver — with $11.7 million in cap space — can currently afford.

If released by Minnesota, as speculated, Klis left open the possibility that the Broncos could put in a call. "But again I have not heard that the Broncos will definitively be in on Cook if he’s let go."

A four-time Pro Bowler with nearly 6,000 career rushing yards, Cook has been a popular name in Mile High circles, especially after the team released three RBs (Jacques Patrick, Tyreik McAllister, Damarea Crockett) over the last week. The presence of general manager George Paton, who helped draft Cook in Minnesota, has added increasing fuel to the fire.

However, it appears the Broncos aren't willing to pay an exorbitant amount for Cook's services nor outbid his potential suitors, including the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, both of which possess more capital.

Barring an unexpected acquisition, Denver will roll into training camp five-deep at the position, with Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, Tony Jones, Tyler Badie, and Jaleel McLaughlin comprising the depth chart.
