Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy Puts NFL on Notice With Russell Wilson Prediction

Jerry Jeudy didn't hold back when discussing Russell Wilson's 2023 outlook.

When the Denver Broncos were at Centura Health Training Center for mandatory minicamp, fans heard from wide receiver Jerry Jeudy on multiple subjects, including some brief remarks on quarterback Russell Wilson

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and Jeudy has unveiled further thoughts on his veteran quarterback. In some remarks given to Ben Swanson of the team website, Jeudy called his QB a "soldier," revealing why he's confident in Wilson, and punctuated it all with a bold prediction of sorts.

"Just his mentality," Jeudy said via Swanson. "Russ is a soldier. So just the way he handles his business, the way he handles situations, I just know the type of guy he is and the stuff that he can overcome. In the situations like that, that don't put no fear into a man's heart. And I know that this year, he got a big year coming ahead."

Jeudy certainly has a dog in the fight. After being relegated to the second, and sometimes third, option on a given pass play, Jeudy finally became Wilson's No. 1 option down the stretch, wresting it away from Courtland Sutton.

Wilson tried all season to force-feed Sutton to little avail. But when he started prioritizing Jeudy in the reads, Wilson saw the young wideout make a lot of hay for him.

Over the final six games of the 2022 season, Jeudy totaled 37 receptions for 523 yards and three touchdowns. Extrapolated over an entire 17-game season, that put him on a tear for 104 receptions, 1,481 yards, and nine touchdowns.

A big key to Jeudy carrying that momentum into 2023 under Sean Payton will be the quality of the Broncos' under-center play, but it's hard to imagine Wilson not experiencing a resurgence under one of the league's bonafide QB whisperers.

The Broncos will get what they paid for in Payton. For now, though, Jeudy has to keep focused on the things he can control. One of those aspirations is to be more consistent across the board.

"The biggest thing, really, for me is just consistency," Jeudy said via Swanson. "I know what I'm capable of doing, and I'm capable of playing at a high level. It showed the last six games, and the only thing for now is just bringing them last six games into the new year and just starting off strong and staying consistent."

Wilson will have a bounce-back year, barring injury. Book it. And Jeudy remains poised to be the greatest individual beneficiary of it.

But where the Broncos sit in the standings should also be a clear indicator of the team's improved quarterback play. Entering his age-35 season, Wilson is primed to take the NFL by storm as he continues to fly under the radar on the heels of a mystifying and disappointing first year in Denver.
