Russell Wilson Completed 'Most Improbable' Pass on Sutton TD
The highlight-reel touchdown toss from Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson to wide receiver Courtland Sutton in Monday's upset victory over the Buffalo Bills wasn't just miraculous.
It was unprecedented.
The seven-yard score — which saw Wilson scramble for more than 16 yards before heaving a ball that traveled nearly 40 yards — had a scant completion probability of 3.2%, making it the "most improbable completion" of the NFL's Next Gen Stats era.
It was also Wilson at his most vintage, a glimpse of his peak Seattle days, eluding heavy pressure and launching a perfectly placed, high-arcing ball to Sutton, who somehow managed to get both feet down in the end zone paint — on a 4th-and-2 play, no less.
"We drove all the way down there, kind of get outside the pocket, kind of do a little double spin, and Courtland's sitting right in the corner," Wilson recanted in his post-game press conference. "I mean, unbelievable toe-tap catch."
Wilson finished the night 24-of-29 for 193 yards and two touchdowns, logging a 117.4 passer rating amid Denver's 24-22 conquest at Buffalo.
Sutton, meanwhile, tallied eight receptions for 53 yards and the dazzling TD, his career-high seventh of the season.
