Denver Broncos outside linebacker Randy Gregory is sufficiently healed from the knee injury that marred his 2022 debut in orange and blue — to the point that he's expected to participate in the start of the team's offseason workout program later this spring.

“I do think Randy will be ready," general manager George Paton said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He had a tough season. Started off—I thought he was one of the more explosive players, pass rushers, in the league. Then got [to play the] first three weeks and then had the injury against the Raiders and then took a while to come back. When he came back, did some good things. But the fact that he doesn’t have to rehab this offseason will really help Randy. Randy is a dynamic player [and] we need to keep him available. I do anticipate he will be ready for the offseason program.”

A big-ticket acquisition last March, Gregory's reputation once again caught up with him. The ninth-year veteran, still yet to play a full regular-season schedule, was limited to six appearances (three starts) for Denver. He had recovered from shoulder surgery before injuring his meniscus in an Oct. 2 loss at Las Vegas, necessitating a 10-week absence.

Typically the case, however, Gregory was an edge-rushing force when healthy, notching eight quarterback pressures, seven QB hits, two sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles across 189 defensive snaps.

Entering his age-31 campaign, presumably with a clean bill of health, Gregory is penciled in as OLB1 — likely opposite Baron Browning — under new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, whose pressure-oriented system suits Gregory's aggressive play-style.

That, paired with an overhauled strength-and-conditioning department, should give the organization hope for a better return on its $70 million investment.
