Broncos WR Room: Good, Overrated, or Still Unknown?

There is a lot of hype around the Denver Broncos wide receiver room, but is it warranted?

Broncos WR Room: Good, Overrated, or Still Unknown?

In this story:

The Denver Broncos are hoping to turn it around and need a lot of help to do so. Not only does Russell Wilson need to improve over what he gave the Broncos last year, but they also need more from everyone else on offense.

Last year was not good enough, from anyone, on the offensive side of the ball. Injuries and coaching play their part, but there is still a point where the players have to step up. One position that can have the most significant impact by helping out Wilson and making plays is the wide receiver room.

There is no question that this room has a bunch of hype surrounding them. The Broncos' receivers are full of potential, but they are still very much an unknown group. The hype is fine, but these players need to take steps toward showing it on the field.

Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, and Courtland Sutton have all shown flashes of greatness, but injuries and consistency have not been there. Then you have many question marks after them, which is why this group is so unknown.

Sutton had a massive season in 2019, going for over 1,100 yards with six touchdowns. The next year, he suffered a season-ending injury and hasn't been the same since. With over 1,500 yards and four touchdowns in the last two seasons, part of the issue has been the quality of quarterback play, but he hasn't looked like he did in 2019.

Patrick stepped up as a quality receiving option over the 2020 and 2021 seasons, with almost 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns. He wasn't the first option like Sutton was, so that is good production for where he was on the depth chart. However, injuries have been a constant issue with Patrick going back to college, and he is coming off another serious injury entering his age-30 season.

Then there is Jeudy, the face of the 2020 draft class, who has yet to live up to his No. 15 overall pedigree. The flashes are there, even with the poor quality quarterback play he has dealt with, and the injuries he has suffered.

Jeudy can be the top guy in the position, but he has to step up and be more consistent. Until he does, he's still a bit of a question mark because he can be so much more. Will he take it?

Then you have KJ Hamler, who has had issues staying on the field. Jalen Virgil is a speedster who is more of a track star in a football uniform than a football player. He is nothing but potential until rookie second-rounder Marvin Mims Jr. takes a step on the football field.

Marquez Callaway is a solid depth option for the position. As is fellow ex-Saint Lil'Humphrey Jordan.

The hype is there, and it's warranted because the group has so much potential. However, it stops being potential when you cross that point where they need to step up.

For multiple receivers on the Broncos, this season is that point.
