Insider Updates Broncos' Interest in Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook

In this story:
Never say never, but it appears the Denver Broncos are out of the Dalvin Cook business. In the weeks leading up to the Minnesota Vikings releasing the Pro Bowl running back, rumors swirled around a potential pursuit by the Broncos, owing mostly to Cook's connection to GM George Paton.
When the Cook buzz started to pick up last week, mixed signals were being sent by various NFL insiders on the Broncos' interest, or lack thereof, in the newly free-agent back. Fast forward to Sunday, and the most credible Broncos source writes that the team doesn't "appear" to be pursuing Cook.
"The Broncos do not appear to be in on newly set free running back Dalvin Cook," 9NEWS' Mike Klis reported.
Appearances can be deceiving, and it is the NFL, which is why Klis carefully used the wording that he did. The favorites to land Cook are the Miami Dolphins due to his Florida ties and the type of running game head coach Mike McDaniel deploys.
If we're being honest, Cook would be a luxury signing for Denver. With Javonte Williams ahead of schedule in his recovery from knee surgery, and the arrival of Samaje Perine, the Broncos have two good backs atop the depth chart.
Hedging against any possible setbacks in Williams' recovery, the Broncos also signed a former Sean Payton back in Tony Jones, Jr., and the team is cultivating a handful of young, explosive players whose only real drawback is their relative inexperience.
Cook would command a serious contract. And the Broncos just spent a few bucks on edge rusher Frank Clark, at a position that was actually weak.
But, again, it's the NFL. Stranger things have happened, especially since Paton became GM in Denver. There's a reason why Klis used "appear" as a hedge against the possibility of the Cook winds changing direction and moving against the jetstream toward the Mile High City.
Time will tell.
