Nick Chubb Undergoes Successful 2nd Knee Surgery
Nick Chubb’s path to recovery from the gruesome knee injury he suffered in Week 2 against the Steelers took another big step Tuesday in the right direction.
Chubb, the Browns’ four-time Pro Bowl running back, successfully underwent a second surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee, according to a statement from the Browns. Team Head Physician Dr. James Voos completed the surgery and added that Chubb has progressed “very well” following the first surgery completed in late September.
Here is the full statement from the Browns:
“Browns running back Nick Chubb underwent his scheduled second surgery today to repair the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) as part of his knee injury sustained in the September game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Team Head Physician James Voos, MD, performed the surgery at University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Voos considered today’s surgery successful and added that Nick’s recovery has progressed very well following his first surgery in late September. As previously announced, the estimated recovery time from these surgeries indicates that Nick would be able to return to play during the 2024 season.”
Chubb’s knee suffered extensive damage following a hit from Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in the 26-22 loss in Pittsburgh. The injury was especially brutal for Chubb, who suffered a similarly devastating injury to his left knee his sophomore year at Georgia, tearing multiple ligaments as well as a dislocated knee and torn hamstring on the same play.
Chubb had been a major piece of the Browns’ offense since Cleveland drafted him in the second round of the 2018 draft. He ranks fourth in franchise history with 6,511 rushing yards and is only 30 yards away from passing Mike Pruitt for third all-time.
