Nick Chubb remains a legend among Cleveland Browns fans. That legend will only grow now that he has officially announced his retirement from the NFL.

The news dropped Friday night after Chubb took to Instagram to wrap up an amazing career.

Former Browns great Nick Chubb announces his retirement

The news began circulating Friday night after Chubb's heartfelt post on Instagram.

The best part of his announcement is how he mentions he wants to end his career on a healthy note. That is great news for someone who suffered several serious injuries during his career. He is only 30 years old and has his whole life in front of him.

Chubb was with the Browns from 2018-2024 and quickly became a fan favorite due to his hard-nosed, no-nonsense style of play. His four consecutive Pro Bowl seasons from 2019-2022 helped build his reputation as well.

His best year in a Browns uniform came in 2022 when he ran for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns. That led to him being named an All-Pro. Unfortunately, injuries would derail his next two seasons in Cleveland and cut short an all-time run of success.

He spent the 2025 season with the Houston Texans and was clearly a shell of his former shelf, but still ran for 506 yards in a reserve role.

Chubb being retired means the Browns can officially begin honoring him as soon as this year. He is at the same level as someone like Joe Thomas and will hopefully decide to be associated with the team for years to come. Perhaps the team can reveal his statue when the new stadium opens.

His career began to hit its decline in 2023 after he was tackled by the Pittsburgh Steelers' Minkah Fitzpatrick in a brutal collision that led to a season-ending knee injury. This was in addition to the serious knee injury he suffered in college with the Georgia Bulldogs. The fact he was even so dominant in the NFL was surprising to some due to that initial injury.

The Browns deciding to let him leave in free agency was controversial to some fans, but it appears to make football sense in hindsight. He spent seven of his eight NFL seasons with the Browns, so any ill will can fade away and he can take his rightful spots among the team's legends.

The fact he is doing so with his health intact is the best news of all.
