Buccaneers' GM Jason Licht Comments on Re-Signing of WR Mike Evans

The Buccaneers made the re-signing of WR Mike Evans official and general manager Jason Licht commented on retaining him.

Tampa Bay had and still has a number of important moves to make during the 2024 offseason. However, they made perhaps the most important move first as they hashed out a contract agreement with future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans.

Without getting into the details of the deal the two sides reached, Evans inked a two-year, $52 million deal to remain in the red and pewter - putting more and more emphasis that he could remain a Buccaneer for the entirety of his career.

The deal was finalized on Monday, but the team released statements on the re-signing prior to Evans' press conference Friday in which General Manager Jason Licht gave flowers to the best Buccaneers' WR of all time. Here's what Licht said on the extension of his first-ever NFL draft pick:

"The first 10 years of Mike's time in Tampa have been truly unprecedented and we look forward to seeing him continue to break records and add to his legendary career as a Buccaneer. Mike is a special player who has made a lasting impact on this franchise and in our community. As great as he's been on the field, Mike and his wife, Ashli, have had an even bigger effect in the Tampa Bay area through all their charitable work. He is crucial to our team success and exemplifies everything we want our players to be."

The re-signing of Mike Evans is huge, as it will likely help in the retention of QB Baker Mayfield as the team looks to make a similar run and build off the foundation that was laid last season in 2023. Evans has been the epitome of what you want in an NFL player. He has shown to be a leader on the field and in the locker room, while also being the upmost example of a human being off the field.

Evans' level of consistency over the course of his 10-year NFL career is to be marveled at as he is reaching and breaking records that were once thought to be unattainable.

Now inked for at least two more seasons in Tampa Bay, Evans will look to continue to build on the success he has had thus far in his career in the hopes of one day attaining another Lombardi Trophy.
