Buccaneers Projected to Land Top QB Prospect in 2024 NFL Draft

The Bucs are projected to land one of the top quarterbacks in ESPN’s 2024 NFL mock draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just coming out of their most recent successful draft. The front office, specifically general manager Jason Licht, has been praised in recent years for the work they have been able to do in the draft.

Now that the 2023 NFL draft is completed the Buccaneers can turn their attention to the offseason workouts prior to the start of the season.

There will be many question marks surrounding how this Bucs team will look this upcoming season. With the departures of long-time coaches, introduction of new coaches, players leaving in free agency and new players being brought in, Tampa Bay as a whole will look drastically different.

Perhaps the largest of these question marks is what will transpire at the quarterback position. The coaching staff has made it known that they are a full-go on having Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield battle it out to become the team's starter, but that could change as the season progresses depending on the winner of that battle's success.

Many around the league don't foresee the Buccaneers being all that successful this year - potentially netting them a top-5 draft pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Running with that idea, ESPN's Todd McShay has the Bucs making a trade to move up into the No. 1 overall spot in the 2024 NFL draft in his most recent way-too-early 2024 mock draft.

With the Buccaneers not sure of the future of their quarterback position and with the expectation of this being a down year, McShay has the Bucs nabbing the best quarterback in 2024, Caleb Williams out of the University of Southern California.

Williams has been highly touted since coming out of high school and is coming off a season where he won the most decorated award in all of college football, the Heisman Trophy.

Williams is pretty much a lock to be the No. 1 overall draft pick following this upcoming season. So far in his collegiate career at Oklahoma and USC, Williams has completed 469 passes for 6,449 yards and 63 touchdowns to just 9 interceptions for a QBR of 168.9.

Caleb Williams is a once-in-a-lifetime player and quarterback. If the Buccaneers' season starts off rough and continues to snowball downhill, it would be interesting to see if the front office decides to go ahead and "tank" the rest of the season to nab perhaps the best quarterback we have seen enter the NFL in some time.
