Buccaneers to Bring in Five Quarterbacks on Top-30 Visits Leading Up to 2023 NFL Draft

Buccaneers' GM, Jason Licht, planning to bring in five quarterbacks on top-30 visits prior to NFL Draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost Tom Brady to retirement and have since made moves to try and fill the voids left by him and Blaine Gabbert (free agency) in the quarterback room.

Originally, former second-round pick, Kyle Trask, was the only QB on the Bucs' roster before signing Baker Mayfield to a cheap one-year deal. Rumors also swirled surrounding the Bucs making an attempt at trading for Ravens' quarterback, Lamar Jackson, but head coach, Todd Bowles, put those to rest earlier this week.

The Buccaneers' coaching staff is content moving forward with a quarterback competition between Trask and Mayfield for the starting position, but the team may not be done adding another player into the mix come the 2023 NFL Draft in late April.

There has been chatter regarding the Bucs bringing in quarterbacks for top-30 visits prior to the draft. Tne visits allow franchises to bring in 30 college prospects to the organization so that they are able to get a better feel for the direction they want to head in the draft.

According to JoeBucsFan.com, Buccaneers' general manager, Jason Licht, plans on bringing in "five" quarterbacks during the top 30 visits while acknowledging that this is a much higher number than usual.

“We don’t always just bring in the top players,” Licht said. “Sometimes we bring in players that weren’t at the Combine that we want to get medical [testing] on. Sometimes we’re bringing in guys that we’re targeting late in the draft. And sometimes we’re bringing in guys because we didn’t feel comfortable with their character from the fall or school calls, or times we’ve been at school or talked to them at the Combine and we want to do more investigating.”

Bringing in five quarterbacks is a ton, but at the end of the day, if things don't work out well with either Mayfield or Trask, the Bucs will at least have a young, talented prospect to fall back on.

Tampa Bay has a lot to figure out between now and the draft, and it seems like the front office and coaching staff have a well-thought-out plan on how to maximize the potential of their 2023 roster.
