Tom Brady In "Deep Discussions" To Become Part Owner Of NFL Franchise

Could Tom Brady go from the playing field to the owners suite?

After stepping away from the playing field for the second time in March, former NFL superstar and seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady may be back around the sport sooner than expected. Though he's expected to take the 2023 season off prior to diving into the broadcast booth, Brady is exploring his options to expand his involvement in the sport in other avenues.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brady is in "deep discussions" to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders. There's a real possibility that this move becomes official because he's already working with Raiders' owner Mark Davis. Shortly after retiring, he joined Davis as a minority owner of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces. Davis is the primary owner of the Raiders and Aces.

The report from Schefter went on to state that this situation could be coming to a conclusion in the near future. Brady is not expected to have any operational control or authority over the club in business or football matters. In the event that he agrees to become a limited partner, 24 current team owners would have to vet and approve the move.

Brady would instantly become the most popular former NFL player to be among the owners of a franchise. His brand and work ethic speak for themselves and would be useful in a market that the Raiders are still relatively new to.

This isn't the first time that Brady has displayed an interest in moving to an ownership role. The Miami Dolphins were fined $1.5 million and stripped of their 2023 first-round pick following an investigation into tampering allegations. The league concluded that the Dolphins had multiple conversations with Tom Brady as well as Sean Payton's agent from 2019 to 2022. Those talks included discussions about Brady potentially joining the franchise as a limited partner.

It will be interesting to see if or how this affects the dynamic of Brady's 10-year/$375-million deal with Fox Sports. Regardless, it appears that this is something that the future hall of fame quarterback and Raiders would like to finalize shortly.

Las Vegas has plenty of familiar faces in the building that Brady is more than familiar with from New England. Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is entering his second season as head coach while former Patriots executive Dave Ziegler is currently the General Manager.

That familiarity trickles down to players on the roster as well. Brady played with guys such as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, quarterback Brian Hoyer, running back Brandon Bolden, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, and defensive end Chandler Jones in New England.

Brady suited up for 23 seasons in the NFL with his first two decades coming with the Patriots before spending his final three seasons with the Buccaneers. He completed 7753/12,050 passes for 89,214 yards with 649 touchdown passes to 99 interceptions. One of the most decorated players of all time, it's good for professional football to keep Brady around in as many ways as possible.
