It's the time of year when fringe players around the NFL are trying to keep their respective careers alive. Following a furious period of free agency coupled with the recent draft, there are still some offseason roster spots remaining on 90-man rosters.

After being released by the Seattle Seahawks leading up to the festivities in Kansas City last month, former Buccaneers running back Darwin Thompson is exploring his options.

On Friday, the fourth-year veteran worked out with the Jacksonville Jaguars during Rookie Mini-Camp. Thompson is trying out for the team over the next couple of days as he looks to land with his fourth different franchise.

The Jaguars selected former Auburn running back Tank Bigsby during the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The franchise is also returning leading rusher Travis Etienne Jr. and veteran D'Ernest Johnson so Thompson has his work cut out for him.

Thompson was on Tampa Bay's roster during the 2021-22 season after the franchise signed him to the practice squad. He didn't end up appearing in a game with the franchise with running backs such as Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones, Ke'Shawn Vaughn, and Giovani Bernard soaking up snaps in the backfield.

The Buccaneers chose to release Thompson to replace his spot on the roster in January 2022. Shortly after, the Kansas City Chiefs swooped him up for his second stint with the franchise. He eventually got an opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks and spent the year under new Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Dave Canales.

The Oklahoma native was drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round back in 2019. He spent his first two years with Kansas City and was a member of the team that won Super Bowl LIV. During his career, Thompson has rushed 64 times for 225 yards and a touchdown while catching 16 passes for 108 yards and another score.

A junior college product, he played his lone season at the FBS level for Utah State in 2018. Thompson put together a prolific campaign as he rushed 153 times for 1,044 yards with 14 touchdowns on the ground while catching 23 passes for 351 yards and two more scores.
