The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and head coach, Todd Bowles, have made a flurry of hires in recent days.
After the overhaul of most of the offensive staff, the Buccaneers have recently have hired Dave Canales from the Seattle Seahawks as their new offensive coordinator along with the additions of a running backs coach and WR coach.

Trade Rumors: Could Buccaneers Land Former 1st Round Quarterback?

It is very rare that we see a current player breaking news in the NFL, but Geno Smith and Thad Lewis apparently have a tight connection dating back to both of their high school playing days in Miami, Florida.
After high school, Lewis went on to play quarterback for the Duke Blue Devils in college where he set school records for career passing touchdowns and career passing yards along with the school record for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception. During his Senior season at Duke, Lewis was also named a finalist for the Davey O'Brien that is presented to the nation's top quarterback.

Following college, Lewis had a brief NFL career before deciding that his future was in coaching. He joined UCLA's staff as an offensive analyst in 2018 before becoming an intern with the Buccaneers in 2020. After the 2020 season, the Buccaneers hired Lewis as an offensive assistant and then he was once again promoted to assistant WR's coach in 2021.
Lewis and the Buccaneers clearly have a great understanding of one another as he has now been promoted to the franchise's QB coach. Lewis will have his work cut out for him as the Buccaneers continue to have a decision to make when it comes to who will be the guy heading into the 2023-24 NFL season.
