Over the past weekend, Bowles fulfilled that goal which was to one day go back to college to earn his degree and graduate.

Bowles initially attended college at Temple University while playing cornerback for their football team under former Bucs' head coach Bruce Arians. While Bowles didn't complete his degree and graduate at the time, he made a promise to his mother that he would one day go back and complete his degree. He now has kept his promise, 37-years later.

“Completing my degree was something I had always wanted to do over the years because it was something I had promised my mother when I went to play in the NFL, and I wanted to follow through on that promise,” Bowles said. “Over the years, as I became a father, it became something I wanted to do in order to set a proper example for my sons as they continue on their educational paths. I have also worked pretty extensively with children through my various community projects, and I felt it was important to show them they can achieve whatever they set their mind to.”

Bowles returned to college by attending Mount St. Mary's University to complete his degree. During this time, it was at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and Bowles was also in the midst of his coaching career with the Buccaneers, so much of the work had to be done online.

Now, having accomplished a monumental dream and goal of his and his family, Bowles will turn his attention to the Bucs' upcoming season after having an up-and-down first year at the helm in Tampa Bay.
