J.J. Watt Believes Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins Would Play for Patriots

There might be very few who know Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins better than J.J. Watt.

Former Arizona Cardinals DE J.J. Watt is living his best life since retiring from the NFL.

He's got some time to kill until he's inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame five years down the road, and thus far he's made good use of that. While juggling fatherhood and marriage, he's put his ice skates to use and even provided some chirps on Twitter back at some unfortunate people.

That also includes making a guest cameo on the Pat McAfee Show, where he spoke on a variety of different topics that included the future of his former teammate DeAndre Hopkins. The two spent time together in Arizona and Houston.

Hopkins - who is reportedly on the trade block - could potentially reunite with former Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien in New England.

Hopkins arrived to Arizona via trade from the Texans, and like any competitor there's a small amount of resentment for their split.

Watt believes a potential future with the Patriots isn't out of the question just because O'Brien is their new offensive coordinator.

"I think Hop is a smart guy. He thinks through a lot of things and I also think that Bill [O'Brien] is [too]… I don't think it's a situation where it would be like , 'oh no, you can't work with him.' I think Hop is very smart and good from that standpoint where he's able to sit down and think through, talk through a situation and amend things," said Watt on the show.

The Athletic's NFL Insider Jeff Howe reported New England contacted the Cardinals for Hopkins among other potential options at receiver.

"I think if Hop thinks he can win there [New England], I think he would go. I think he's at a point in his career where he wants to have the ability to win. I think it more comes down to if he believes he has a chance to go win," Watt said.

Hopkins has two years remaining on his deal. The Cardinals would eat $22.6 million in dead cap space but would save $8.15 million in 2023 salary if Hopkins is traded.
