Former GM Details What Cardinals Should do in NFL Draft
We're just hours away from the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Arizona Cardinals will soon be on the clock.
The No. 3 overall pick has the opportunity to help change the course of the Cardinals' franchise moving forward. Arizona - regardless if they stay put or trade down - can emerge as huge winners from the first night on the draft.
However, new general manager Monti Ossenfort will still need to decide which course of action will be best for his franchise.
In a conference call with reporters ahead of the draft, former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum was asked by All Cardinals what he would do if he were running the show in Arizona:
"I would try to accumulate as many picks as possible and hope somebody wants to come up. Even if I could flip three and four with the Colts - who are gonna take a quarterback - and you pick up a two or three [second or third-round pick], whatever I can get," said Tannenbaum.
"I'm either taking Will Anderson, Tyree Wilson or Devon Witherspoon. I'm taking a frontline defensive player. Because of Kyler Murray's contract, I gotta stick with him for at least another year. But to me it's just volumes of picks and they've lost a lot of talent, really on both sides of the ball. When you think about their front seven over the last few years with [J.J.] Watt and Chandler Jones, there's a lot that needs to be fixed here. I would certainly start in the front seven or a difference maker at corner."
Along with the names Tannenbaum mentioned, guys such as Jalen Carter and Christian Gonzalez are other notable names to watch on the defensive side of the ball. The Cardinals are also heavily linked with offensive tackle Paris Johnson.
As far as potential trade partners, the Cardinals have heavily been connected with the Tennessee Titans in the build up to the draft. The Titans pick No. 11 and are reportedly trying to move up.
