ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals once were thought to seriously be considering a quarterback with their top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As of now, at least, the noise has settled.

Cardinals OC Drew Petzing recently appeared on the "Adam Schefter Podcast" and gave his vote of confidence for Kyler Murray to stick around beyond 2023. His comments can be read in the article below if you haven't seen them:

When asked about the comments, Murray said he appreciated the sentiment before taking ownership of his future in the desert:

“Obviously, to have the faith of ‘JG’ (Head Coach Jonathan Gannon), Drew and (General Manager) Monti (Ossenfort), all those guys, it means a lot. It’s on me though to go out there and prove why they paid me, why I got drafted, all of that," Murray said.

"That’s a battle every single day. It should be for me, and it should be for every player. There’re obviously different reasons why I play the game, but for them to have my back for sure is definitely a good feeling.”

The evaluation period is far from over, as Murray still has four games left on the schedule to cement his spot on the roster for 2024. Having a franchise quarterback on the roster makes Arizona's rebuild far easier to construct, and Murray says the team is simply trying to build momentum heading into next year.

“I think going into the season we kind of knew what we had as far as JG and everything switching upstairs. The culture shift, everything, and you’ve seen it throughout this season. We’ve played well in spurts. We beat some good teams, we’ve been in some close games, I think things are turning in the right direction," Murray said.

"I think with these four games, you’ve got to finish strong. The focus is to just go play well. Don’t worry about the result. Just buy into the process and keep doing what we’re doing. Obviously, build some confidence going into the next season and the offseason but for me, just play well.”
