Kyler Murray Gives Classy Response When Asked About Cardinals Remarks

ARIZONA — The Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray are handling their divorce amicably.

It's been months since the Cardinals released Murray, ending a seven-year relationship after making the former Heisman winner the No. 1 overall pick back in 2019.

Arizona quickly made the decision to move off Murray once new head coach Mike LaFleur entered the picture — that's from the head coach himself.

"I'd say pretty quickly. Once we made the decision that we were going to do that, the show goes on," LaFleur said after the Hall of Fame Game. "And that's quarterback all the way down to the punter to any coach. Like I've put on record, I think best for both parties, and so here we are."

This week, when asked about those words from LaFleur and if he was motivated by the Cardinals releasing him at the prime of his career, Murray responded with:

"I'm honestly not too worried about what's going on over there. Focused on what I got going on here in Minnesota. I'm glad to be here. Loved every part of being here and I'm focused on the future," he said.

Murray just won the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback job ahead of the 2026 season. He inked a one-year deal to sign with Minnesota after Arizona released him.

As for the Cardinals, they signed veteran backup Gardner Minshew in free agency and drafted third-round pick Carson Beck to be behind the recently restructured Jacoby Brissett.

It was a move that was unfortunately needed from both parties, as Murray clearly wasn't working out in the desert while the Cardinals couldn't piece together a strong roster or coaching staff around him.

Once Murray departed Week 5 due to injury last season and Brissett took over, it was clear Murray's tenure in Arizona was running out.

"7 years…damn. I never wanted things to end like this," said Murray in a goodbye post once the transaction was made official.

"I want to acknowledge how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and optimism I’ve received since the news broke. I am so appreciative to all the genuine supporters I’ve made throughout my career. There’s not enough words to express how much the positivity has helped throughout this transition, I love you all."

Neither the Cardinals or Murray have bad-mouthed each other through the entire process, which has been refreshing to see — and quite honestly is welcomed after we've seen so many similar situations unfold differently.
