Cardinals Rivals Trade for Pro Bowl DL

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals may or may not make a move as the league's trade deadline approaches on Oct. 31, though one of their NFC West division rivals pulled the trigger and added a Pro Bowl defensive lineman to the roster.

According to various NFL insiders, the Seattle Seahawks are acquiring DL Leonard Williams from the New York Giants.

"The Giants have quietly fielded calls for Leonard Williams, with several interest suitors. His contract may have to be adjusted. But he heads to Seattle for significant draft pick compensation," said Ian Rapoport shortly after news of the trade broke.

Williams is in the final year of his 3-yr, $63 million contract. Rapoport said New York is expected to eat a "large portion" of the contract.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said the transaction won't be official until after 4:00 PM ET because New York has to re-work his contract to facilitate the deal.

The Seahawks are currently 5-2 and sit atop the NFC West. They already played the Cardinals once this season, walking away with a 20-10 victory in Seattle. They'll travel back to State Farm Stadium for the final week of the season.

Williams was the No. 6 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft who appeared in the 2016 Pro Bowl. In 2019, he was traded from the New York Jets to the Giants.

The Cardinals could potentially join in on the action, as people around the league have eyes on names such as Budda Baker, Zach Ertz, James Conner, Marquise Brown and even Kyler Murray - though various reports suggest the Cardinals have been quiet on the trade market.

The Giants have now done business with multiple NFC West teams in 2023, as New York acquired Isaiah Simmons from Arizona towards the end of preseason play.
