Many players have talked about it - but the accountability from the Arizona Cardinals moving forward has impressed Kyler Murray.

ARIZONA -- Slowly, but surely, we are approaching the official return of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray has navigated a fairly long road ahead of his return in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons after tearing his ACL and meniscus in Week 14 of last season. The former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl passer has never sustained a significant injury like the one he suffered, and now with Arizona in the midst of a rebuild, Murray is tasked with proving himself capable as the franchise leader moving forward.

"I'm ready to go," said Murray to reporters at the team's facility.

The last time Murray touched the field for Arizona, notable names such as Kliff Kingsbury and Steve Keim were running the show. After a 4-13 outing in 2022, both were canned in favor of new head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort.

There's been some drastic changes - from an organizational aspect down to the team itself - and when asked about how different the new landscape is in the desert, Murray highlighted one word: Accountability.

"I've seen a lot of people - Budda [Baker] and D.J. [Humphries] and all the quotes about how it's been night and day, complete 180 shift and stuff like that. I would agree," Murray said.

"Obviously we've won games in the past but JG [Jonathan Gannon] and Monti [Ossenfort] coming in, I think it comes down to accountability man and everybody doing their job. Everybody's doing their job. Everybody's holding each other accountable and setting that standard. If you break that standard, then it is what it is.

"You have to face whatever consequences regardless if it's me, if it's JG, whoever it is. If we hold each other to that standard, that's how you build the culture. You bring in the right guys that are bought in and willing to do whatever for the guy next to him. I think we're heading in the right direction."

The Cardinals are just 1-8 on the season thus far, though 2024 and beyond looks fairly bright with a projected $66 million in cap space and six picks in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Whether Murray is part of the team down the road remains to be seen, though it's clear he's pleased with the new regime and what they've accomplished thus far.
