Chargers News: Brandon Staley Not Making Any Significant Changes to Defense Despite Struggles

After another loss in true Chargers fashion – scoring 38 points and losing by one possession, 41-38, to visiting the Detroit Lions on Sunday -- Brandon Staley seems to, frankly, not care, per Kris Rhim of ESPN.
"We believe in how we played, and we believe in the guys that we're playing with," Staley said Wednesday. "You're going to make adjustments throughout the year, but nothing significant.
"... I think if you feel like it gives you the best chance to win or you think they spark your team or something, people do that. But we don't feel like that's the direction we're gonna take."
Staley's comments are incredibly bizarre, as his lack of accountability is something that you don't really see from coaches. Typically, when teams turn out historically bad defenses performances (or even just a bad defensive performance), coaches take full accountability, apologize, and ensure that they'll be better.
That isn't what's happening here. Despite being arguably the worst defense in the NFL since the dawn of his tenure in 2021, Staley not only refuses to relinquish play-calling duties to at least explore change, but he instead appears committed to making no adjustments.
His job security aside, this almost feels negligent from a coach. He's aware of how poor the defense has performed since he's arrived, but in spite of that, believes that a clearly broken strategic approach is somehow going to work for the rest of the season.
Things don't get easier for the 4-5 Chargers – they have games against Buffalo, Baltimore, Kansas City, and two divisional matchups against the Broncos, who've seemingly turned their season around.
