Justyn Ross Returns to Chiefs Training Camp Practice

Kansas City's promising young wideout left Tuesday's practice early but is back in action on Wednesday morning.

The Kansas City Chiefs' Tuesday morning practice saw three wide receivers, including second-year man Justyn Ross, leave early with various injuries. The Chiefs got some form of good news on Tuesday, though as it looks like Ross's injury is nothing serious.

Ross was spotted heading down to practice on Wednesday morning to get some work in, although he was wearing a sleeve on his left leg:

Following Tuesday's practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid initially described Ross's injury as a knee or hamstring ailment, then he doubled back and threw "shin" in there for good measure. Regardless of what the actual designation is, it's tremendous news for Kansas City that its 23-year-old pass-catcher was able to shake it off and get back out on the field less than 24 hours after getting hurt.

Staying healthy has been an issue for Ross over the years, as he suffered a spinal cord injury during his collegiate career at Clemson and later had his final campaign cut short due to a foot injury. He then went undrafted and spent all of the 2022 NFL season getting back to full strength, and the hype surrounding him was off the charts this spring and summer. Now trying to put those injuries in the rearview mirror, Ross is fighting for a spot on the end of the Chiefs' wide receiver depth chart and 53-man roster by the end of the month.

In Kansas City's preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, Ross hauled in a pair of passes on five targets. Notching 29 receiving yards and scoring his first touchdown since 2021, he displayed smooth route running and his playmaking ability down in the Big Easy. It caught the attention of Reid and third-string quarterback Shane Buechele, and Ross will hope to keep that momentum rolling now that he's returning to the practice field.
