It was already known that safety Chamarri Conner and cornerback Nic Jones had agreed to their respective rookie contracts, but now the news is finalized with confirmation from the team itself. With this news and the additions of offensive tackle Wanya Morris, defensive end BJ Thompson and defensive tackle Keondre Coburn, Kansas City now has all of its players from rounds three through seven locked up for the next several years. Spotrac's four-year estimates for the aforementioned rookie deals, as well as Conner's official numbers, are below:
- Morris: $5.37 million total value, $904,259 signing bonus, $976,065 cap hit
- Conner: $4.59M total value, $751,368 signing bonus, $937,842 cap hit
- Thompson: $4.11M total value, $271,651 signing bonus, $817,913 cap hit
- Coburn: $4.02M total value, $176,615 signing bonus, $794,154 cap hit
- Jones: $3.92M total value, $77,777 signing bonus, $769,444 cap hit
With these five signings now made official by the team (and financials likely coming at some point in the near future), the Chiefs have just two unsigned members of their 2023 draft class to make official now. First-round pick, defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, is estimated by Spotrac to receive a four-year deal worth $11.82M while earning a hefty $5.59M signing bonus and carrying a 2023 cap hit of $2.15M. Second-round pick, wide receiver Rashee Rice, is estimated to earn a total contract value of $6.5M with a $1.72M signing bonus and a $1.18M cap hit as a rookie.
The estimates above very well may end up being different from what players actually sign for, but they are still valuable reference points for Kansas City's newest deals going on the books. Over the next four seasons, the Chiefs' 2023 rookies will be counted on to blossom into productive contributors and eventually usher in future first-year generations in the years to come. As of Tuesday, five of them are formally on their respective ways to accomplishing that.
