The Kansas City Chiefs have done a great job this offseason of recognizing and addressing their positional needs. When they realized the left tackle spot was shaky, they brought in San Francisco 49ers lineman Jaylon Moore first thing in free agency. When they thought their QB, Patrick Mahomes, needed extra help, they re-signed wide receiver Marquise Brown and bolstered the backfield as well. With the 2025 NFL Draft upcoming, Kansas City knows exactly what it still needs to address.

In a recent 7-round mock draft by Ian Cummings of "Pro Football & Sports Network," it's projected that the Chiefs continue hitting on all sides while they fully round out their offense and defense for the 2025 season.

It's the Chiefs' top priority to increase protection for Mahomes, specifically at the edges, along with getting a replacement for defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, who signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency after a breakout season in 2024. While it'll most likely be those two positions that they target early in the draft, as highlighted by Cummings himself, it's just as important to highlight the picks that come after:

Pick 66: Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame

“Xavier Watts should not have fallen this far, but as usual, the Chiefs are the beneficiaries. Watts is instinctive, fluid, and a two-phase playmaker of the highest caliber,” Cummings said.

"Losing Justin Reid was a major blow, and they needed to fill the void," said Priyanshu Choudhary, another writer for PFSN. "Watts can be a good consolation prize with immediate starter capabilities. Instincts, ball skills, and the ability to play from sideline to sideline are all major positives for Watts. His playmaking makes him a valuable get for the Chiefs’ defense."

Pick 95: Cameron Skattebo, RB, Arizona State

“Cameron Skattebo’s lacking vertical speed may drop him on some boards, but he has the vision, footwork, grueling physicality, and pass-game versatility to earn Andy Reid’s eye,” wrote Cummings.

"Relying on Kareem Hunt— or whatever version of Isiah Pacheco shows up — might not be the best contingency plan for Kansas City," Choudhary continued. "As a result, Skattebo could surface as the perfect RB2, especially after a remarkable performance at the NFL Combine. He also tallied 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns during his final collegiate season."

Not only will it be important for the Chiefs to nail the early parts of the draft, but to truly remain a competitive dynasty KC will have to come out with a well-rounded draft class that builds up the rest of the roster.
