The Kansas City Chiefs are set to launch their NFL title defense on Thursday evening, and they'll begin the 2023 season against a tough Detroit Lions team.

Already having posted a winning record a season ago, the Dan Campbell-led Lions are a feisty group with plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Jared Goff played inspired football down the stretch in 2022, and the addition of rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs gives him even more to work with in year No. 3 with the club. Defensively, Aaron Glenn's unit showed gradual improvement last year and is looking to put it all together from the get-go this time around.

For the hosts, their task is holding off a competitive Detroit team and overcoming some adversity to start the campaign. Not only did tight end Travis Kelce suffer a knee injury during practice on Tuesday, but defensive tackle Chris Jones's holdout has yet to end as his camp still can't come to an agreement with the Chiefs on a long-term contract extension. Kansas City has plenty of reasons to be favored in this matchup, although it could still be a tough outing nonetheless.

Here's how you can follow along with the Chiefs as they play on Thursday.
