Anthony Richardson Flashes Star Potential: Film Room

Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson had an up and down preseason debut this past Saturday. He lost a few passes high and threw an interception early on, but he began to flash his star potential towards the tail end of his first start.

The young passer finished the game 7-of-12 for 67 yards and an interception in one quarter of play, but his overall play was a bit more noteworthy than his pedestrian statline. He flashed the mobile ability and the arm talent that led the Colts to selecting him fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft on a few occasions in this outing.

His best two plays came on his final drive of the day. He ripped a beautiful pop pass over the middle to Kylen Granson for a 20 yard gain and then two plays later dropped a perfect bucket ball to Alec Pierce down the field that was nearly a deep score for the team. For a 21 year old passer making his first NFL start, these two plays were exactly what the Colts wanted to see from the next face of their franchise.
