Anthony Richardson Replacement? Colts Work Out 4 QBs

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's injury could keep him out for an extended period of time.

It was reported on Monday that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson could miss at least four weeks with a shoulder injury

With just Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger healthy, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reports the Colts worked out four quarterbacks this week. Should Richardson need a stint on injured reserve, the Colts could replace him on the roster with one of these four players.

"With Anthony Richardson sidelined, sources say the Colts worked out a group of veteran QBs, including Kellen Mond, Ian Book, Holton Ahlers, and Trace McSorley," Garafolo wrote on Twitter/X

Kellen Mond:

Mond was a former third-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings. He only made one appearance in an NFL game, a fourth quarter blow out in 2021. He went 2-3 passing for five yards.

Mond was very decorated in college at Texas A&M, but he just hasn’t been able to put it together in the pros. Mond also spent a year with the Cleveland Browns as well last season.

Ian Book:

Book was a standout at Notre Dame, but has been a bit of a journeyman in his first-three years in the NFL. He’s played for three different organizations including the Saints who drafted him in the fourth round in 2021. Book started one game in his career and went 12-20 passing for 135 yards and two interceptions in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Holton Ahlers:

Holton Ahlers is an undrafted rookie who was initially signed by the Seattle Seahawks. Ahlers attended college at East Carolina where he is the all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. At 6'3 and 230 pounds, he’s a big guy who moves well for his size.

Trace McSorely:

The most accomplished of all the quarterbacks that worked out this week is Trace McSorely. McSorely was a sixth-round draft pick in 2019 from Penn State. He appeared in three games with the Baltimore Ravens in two seasons. He later went on to sign with the Arizona Cardinals where he made six appearances and went 45-83 passing for 412 yards, no touchdowns and five Interceptions.
