Pair of Former Colts QBs Find New Homes
It’s been reported that former Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Jacob Eason have found homes with new NFL squads.
After spending last season with the Washington Commanders, Wentz has had trouble finding a new team. That search came to an end Tuesday, as Wentz is signing with the Los Angeles Rams and could start right away.
"Carson Wentz is signing with the Los Angeles Rams, per source," ESPN's Adam Schefter posted on X.
Given how Rams starting QB Matthew Stafford is dealing with a thumb injury, and former backup signal-caller Brett Rypien didn’t play well against the Green Bay Packers last week, it makes sense that Wentz gets the chance to shine again.
Wentz’s lone season in 2021 with the Colts is heavily criticized, as many credit nearly all of the offensive success to running back Jonathan Taylor. While Indy would still miss the playoffs with a 9-8 record at the time, most of that blame was put on Wentz for having bad performances in the final two weeks of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Either win would have secured the Colts a playoff spot and they could have potentially been a tough team to play. However, this wouldn’t happen and Wentz would drop both of those final games. This bad finish severely ruins the look of his otherwise solid numbers that year. He would play 17 games (all starts), complete 322-of-516 passes (62.4%) for 3,563 passing yards, 27 passing TDs (1 rushing TD) and 7 Ints.
Wentz might not be the former MVP candidate that he once was, but a new start with an offensive guru like Sean McVay could work in favor of the former No.2 overall pick.
As for Eason, he will be joining the New York Giants practice squad after the news of Daniel Jones’ season-ending ACL tear.
Schefter also relayed on X, “Another QB move: Giants are signing former Panthers/49ers/Seahawks/Colts QB Jacob Eason to their practice squad, per source.”
Eason will look to try and get potential snaps under center with a team that is struggling mightily with injuries all over the roster.
