Colts Reveal Coaching Staff for the 2023 Season

Head coach Shane Steichen has finally assembled his coaching staff as the Indianapolis Colts look toward the 2023 season.

As the Indianapolis Colts look towards the start of the new league year, one of the first tasks for new head coach Shane Steichen was to hire a coaching staff. That task can now be checked off the list.

The Colts announced on Tuesday their coaching staff for the 2023 season. While most of these hires have been reported already, the announcement by the Colts officially confirms them. The 2023 Colts coaching staff is as follows:

Steichen was the second-to-last hire of this year's NFL coaching cycle, leaving some to believe he would have difficulty finding quality candidates to bring to his staff. However, Steichen got to work quickly, relying on his connections and who he planned to target before becoming the head coach of the Colts.

Cooter will be the man in charge of the offense for the Colts after serving with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Cooter has previous experience as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

The only holdovers from last year's offensive staff are Wayne and Bratton. Turner comes from the Arizona Cardinals, where he has served as the quarterbacks coach since 2021. Smith and Sparano Jr. were both members of the New York Giants coaching staff in 2022. Manning reunites with the Colts after serving as the team's tight ends coach in 2018.

On the defensive side of the ball, the coaching staff stays the same from 2022. Steichen and Bradley worked together for four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, and that familiarity and respect made it easy for Steichen to keep Bradley's staff onboard. Bradley and the defense look to build on a promising campaign for most of the 2022 season.

Special teams sees a shift as Bubba Ventrone left the Colts earlier this offseason to take a promotion with the Cleveland Browns. In comes Mason, an Indy native who served as the special teams coordinator for Notre Dame last season. The Fighting Irish had one of the best special teams units in the country in 2022, blocking seven punts.

Now that the coaching staff has been filled, the Colts' attention turns to free agency and the NFL draft. General manager Chris Ballard and the front office will work with Steichen and the rest of the coaching staff to determine the types of players they need to be successful.

All eyes are focused on 2023 and returning the Colts back to a proud franchise.
