Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson cleared concussion protocol this week after suffering an injury Week 2 vs. the Houston Texans.

He is scheduled to start against the LA Rams on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST at Lucas Oil Field.

Much has been said and written about his physical playing style becoming a detriment to his long-term health, but Richardson doesn't see it that way.

"No, I just ball," said Richardson to reporters this week when asked if he needed to protect himself better.

"The injuries I've gotten so far, there's nothing crazy. I banged my knee on the turf. Everybody gets hurt on turf. And then hitting my head on the ground, that's part of ball.

"I don't think I should change the way I play. I think I play smart enough to know when to get down, when not to get down. Hopefully I can stay healthy the rest of the season."

He may be smart enough, but smarts and experience can go a long way to keeping Richardson healthy. He admitted to a mistake against the Texans that likely won't happen again.

"We were working that play all week," said Richardson on the play that caused the concussion. "We were kind of expecting it and hoping for it to work. It worked.

"[Kyle] Granson got the block. He kicked out [Derek] Stingley for me. I just thought it was an easy-walk-in touchdown, and I was just trying to trot it in there," Richardson said with a rueful grin.

"Guys close in fast, I tried to brace for it, and the way I turned my body, just flopped back and hit my head on the ground and that was that."

That lesson cost Richardson a game and a half with a concussion, but the Colts were able to get wins in both games including an upset-road win over the Baltimore Ravens last week.

"I had no doubt that they were going to go out there and play hard," said Richardson. "It was just kind of hurting me that I couldn't go out there and play hard with them. I'm proud of them, and I appreciate them going out there and getting a W for us."

Richardson left no doubt he's fully recovered from his concussion.

"I'm excited to be back, and I'm ready to play," said Richardson.
