Colts Sign Former Titans, Bears Running Back

In this story:
The Indianapolis Colts have been pretty quiet on the free agency front over the last week and a half.
The most recent signing from the Colts came last Tuesday when they agreed to terms with former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie. McKenzie sat down for an exclusive interview with Horseshoe Huddle this week to discuss the upcoming 2023 season.
But Indy dipped their toe back into the free agency well on Friday. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Colts are signing former Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears running back Darrynton Evans. Fowler reported that Evans worked out with the team Friday morning before the signing.

Evans is a former third-round pick of the Titans from the 2020 NFL Draft out of Appalachian State. Evans was with the Titans for two seasons but was never able to establish a role in their offense. Evans only appeared in six games with the Titans, tallying 16 rushes for 61 yards (3.8 ypc). He also added four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown as a receiving option.
After being waived by the Titans last spring, the Bears added Evans off of waivers. Going into the 2022 season, the Bears hoped Evans would provide quality depth behind fellow running backs David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert.
Unfortunately, Evans did not see much playing time in Chicago, either. He was kept on the practice squad until November, when the Bears elevated him to the active roster. Evans only appeared in six games with the Bears, totaling 14 carries for 61 yards (4.6 ypc). His lone reception with the Bears was a big gain, going for 33 yards.
Evans now lands in Indy, his third team in three years. Evans had some hype coming out of Appalachian State because of his speed and ability to contribute as a runner and receiver. Evans hopes to finally carve out a role with a team where he can make an impact.
The top of the Colts' running back depth chart is set with former All-Pro Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss. Evans will likely compete with Deon Jackson throughout the spring and into training camp for one of the final running back spots on the roster. Time will tell if Evans can finally get his NFL career off the ground with the Colts.
