A Temporary Name: "Washington Football Team"

A temporary name is now in place. The "Washington Football Team" is likely here for a while and perhaps all of 2020.

Another day and another round of non-stop breaking news. You won't hear the old name except by mistake from the temporarily and newly named "Washington Football Team." 

Effective immediately, Washington will call itself the “Washington Football Team”, pending adoption of a new name, sources tell ESPN.

Adam Schefter was first to report the change and the organization has now confirmed the news.  This messaging has been consistent with everything we've said. 

The organization needed to announce a name and logo change and they did. They also needed not to rush the process for many reasons. 

Now they apparently have new uniforms and helmets they'll debut as well on September 13th. 

Washington will not have any change to its color scheme. It will still use burgundy and gold. The Redskins logo on the helmet will be replaced by the player’s number in gold. The Washington Football Team will debut its home uniforms in week 1 against the Eagles. pic.twitter.com/8DpC6b0Tyj

Lebron James, a noted Dallas Cowboys fan, has weighed in on the name change.
