Commanders' Terry McLaurin Reveals Area of Improvement After Win vs. Broncos

Terry McLaurin is focused on offensive improvement as the Washington Commanders get set to host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders are 2-0 for the first time since 2011, as they left Denver on Sunday after a thrilling 35-33 comeback victory. Still undefeated and riding high after a road win, the Commanders have reason to be proud.

But with so much football left to be played, Washington star receiver Terry McLaurin isn't sitting back to relax. He's focused on offensive improvement as the Commanders get set to host an elite AFC foe in the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

McLaurin, who finished Sunday's win with five grabs for 54 yards and a touchdown, revealed some specific improvements he wants to see ahead of the big-time matchup.

“Honestly, I think we have to be better in the red zone," McLaurin said. "When we get those opportunities, we’re kind of on the defense’s side of the field. We got to do a better job of capitalizing when you get those short fields. You have to come away with points. For us as an offense, we want to come away with seven (points) not just three. So I think that’s just on us. Focus on the details and little things."

The Commanders scored three touchdowns in the red zone against Denver, which was highlighted by two fourth-quarter touchdown runs for running back Brian Robinson Jr. As one of the top leaders of the team, McLaurin has his reasons for wanting to see improvement in that regard, but the Commanders were 3 for 3 in the red zone. It's going to be hard to fix what's perfect.

But of course, Washington isn't perfect, and can't just look at Week 2 when it comes to finding ways to improve in the red zone. The Commanders were 2 for 5 inside the 20-yard line in Week 1's 20-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. This inefficiency nearly cost them the game against one of the worst teams in the league.

If McLaurin, quarterback Sam Howell and the rest of the Washington offense falls back down to Earth a tad against a talented Buffalo defense, then capitalizing on every red zone chance will be huge.

The Bills and Commanders kickoff from FedEx Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
