Commanders 'Open to Anything', Including Reunion with QB Kirk Cousins?

The NFL Scouting Combine is a rich environment for rumors to start, and one has the Washington Commanders possibly pursuing former quarterback Kirk Cousins.

They say you can never go home again, and for former players returning to the Washington Commanders perhaps that is a true statement.

When receiver Jamison Crowder signed on with the Commanders last season one could argue he didn't return to his former team, because that team didn't exist anymore.

If that's the case, then if Washington brings back quarterback Kirk Cousins, it won't be a return to his old home, but a trip back to the new team in his old geography.

“I think Washington is going to be open to anything, including moving back in the draft," ESPN's Adam Schefter recently said on the Pat McAfee Show. "So there’s going to be a team that doesn’t get Kirk Cousins, and it certainly sounds like right now Kirk Cousins will have as his primary two options, Atlanta and Minnesota. Maybe Washington jumps in. Maybe there’s another team.”

Not exactly a resounding ringing of the alarm by Schefter there, but anytime an NFL team is connected with a veteran quarterback it's important to pay attention.

Especially when that team has a top-five pick in the NFL Draft like the Commanders do.

Would signing Cousins preclude Washington from taking a quarterback in the first round of April's selection meeting? Locked On Vikings host Luke Bruan has the sense that Cousins will likely want some commitment to him as the starter for any team he signs with, and that commitment will need to run longer than just one season.

So, would the Commanders be willing to commit to an older veteran who can't exactly run around the field much? And do it for multiple seasons?

Chris Russell of Team980 believes there are certainly some real embers building the smoke.

"One thing to keep in mind for a Kirk Cousins- #Commanders reunion as smoke continues to increase is this. As a caller reminded me on @team980 - Kyle Shanahan obviously very close w/ both (general manager) Adam Peters & (Washington coach Dan Quinn)," Russell posted on social media. "Kyle would love to work w/ Kirk again, but can't...Could he urge AP/DQ?”
