New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders GAMEDAY Preview: Sam Howell Streaking
The Washington Commanders face the reeling New York Giants in a Week 11 matchup that could have some postseason implications.
In the middle of the NFC conference rankings, each of Washington's remaining seven games plays a huge importance in challenging for the No. 7 seed to get into the playoffs.
The Commanders lost a close one in Seattle last week, despite a 14-point fourth quarter rally. Seahawks kicker Jason Myers hit a 43-yard field goal as time expired to seal the Seattle win.
The Giants have lost seven of their last eight games. Quarterback Daniel Jones (ACL) is out for the remainder of the 2023 season and backup Tyrod Taylor is also injured. Third-string QB Tommy DeVito is the starter. DeVito, who is 25-years-old, was undrafted out of Syracuse this spring.
In a 49-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week, DeVito totaled 86 passing yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The Giants defense allowed the Cowboys to rack up 640 total yards of offense compared to 172 for the Giants offense.
Washington's offense hopes to keep the momentum. Quarterback Sam Howell leads the league in passing yards after his 312-yard day against the Seahawks. Howell is streaking, with three straight 300-yard passing games.
After this matchup, the Commanders' final slate of games is among the toughest in the NFL. Washington faces the Cowboys twice, the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, who could have Aaron Rodgers back as the starting quarterback by then.
The Commanders sit third in the NFC East division, behind the 8-1 Eagles and the 6-3 Cowboys.
