Chiefs MVP Patrick Mahomes: Commanders to Hire His Coach Eric Bieniemy?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was crowned Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player. Could the Washington Commanders get a slice in the honor by hiring offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is looking to do what nobody has done in the 21st century ... win the MVP of the league and Super Bowl.

In a star-studded affair, the NFL celebrated the league's best on Thursday night at the 12th annual NFL Honors. Live from Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Super Bowl LVII's host city, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was crowned Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player.

Mahomes, who also won MVP in 2018, is the 10th ever multi-time NFL MVP winner. The quarterback did not attend the ceremony to accept the award, as he and the 1.5-point underdog Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Mahomes would not be a two-time MVP without the Chiefs coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

"To the Chiefs organization, Clark Hunt, Brett Veach, Andy Reid, the staff and most of all, my teammates, I would never be standing here today without y'all," Mahomes said. "Every day giving everything that we have together to go for the ultimate goal, the Super Bowl. Let's continue to go for that dream this weekend."

Bieniemy's contract expires after tomorrow's Super Bowl and the Commanders are rumored to be one of three teams looking to hire him at the end of the season. However, Bieniemy is waiting until after the Super Bowl to figure out his future.

"I have not taken any interviews for any offensive coordinator positions," Bieniemy said. "I've only taken one interview, for a head-coaching position. Right now, I've interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts. I thought it went great. We'll see where that goes. Now, as far as the offensive coordinator stuff, right now I am where my feet are. And right now I'm focused on helping us to win this game this weekend."

According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, Bieniemy could land a salary “north of $2.5 million.” ... and there will be competition for his services, presumably at such a price. The Baltimore Ravens have also requested an interview with Bieniemy for their offensive coordinator vacancy, but if the Colts were to make him their new head coach, he would take that job first.

Once the Super Bowl is over, Bieniemy will have options and a domino effect will take place. If the Colts pass on him, it could be a two-horse race between the teams from the DMV.
