Washington Ranked Dead Last by PFT

The Washington NFL team which many loathe because of their name & now accusations of a culture out of control - also has a on-field perception problem.

The belief is that current Washington NFL players have nothing to do with any boorish behavior that infiltrated the rotten carcass of the team facility.

The same for the current coaching and personnel staff.

Hopefully, that belief is justified and there will be no current players caught up in anything and anytime soon.

They have enough to worry about. Staying safe in the COVID pandemic while trying to play football is one and reversing a 3-13 gut punch is another.

There's not a lot of confidence outside the walls of the team facility but that's on paper and in some biased minds.

ProFootballTalk.com (PFT) and Mike Florio certainly cannot be accusing of not having an agenda and specifically one against the Washington organization, which he has been long critical of.

Florio and PFT ranked Ron Rivera's new crew dead last in their PFT 2020 preseason power rankings.

Here's what Florio wrote in part about the team above Washington and the NFL's red-headed step child.

31. Jaguars: That 2017 appearance in the AFC Championship game feels as distant as 1999 and 1996. (And, yes, someone has to be No. 31.)

32. Washington: They’ve got the right coach for the job. Now, if Ron Rivera can focus on coaching and not coming up with a new name or cleaning up Bruce Allen’s mess, maybe they can get to work on turning the franchise around.

It should not be a surprise that Washington is ranked low. They have consistently been throughout the offseason in every ranking.

I have not seen them listed as dead last. Perhaps I missed it?

I do believe some of this is agenda driven on Florio's part. The Jaguars are bad and there's no denying that. The problem? Nobody cares about Jacksonville. They are largely insignificant outside of a quarterback with a porn star 'stache.

Florio knows he can get under the skin of fans a lot more in Washington, as those that still care about the organization, are likely to take offense to a slight like this.

Certainly it's reasonable to see how the Jaguars ranked ahead of Washington based on last year's record and that's how one can totally justify this

However, if we're projecting 2020 - I don't know how anyone can feel better about the Jaguars on paper and on the field.

Unless you're thinking is that the incredibly taxing offseason will take a major toll on Rivera and his new players?

Hot Read: Dan Snyder Still Won't Admit He's Wrong

The Washington roster is clearly better than Jacksonville. Talent on paper doesn't always win but I don't know of anyone that thinks the Jaguars are in better shape than the burgundy and gold on the field.

Did Shad and Tony Kahn get the nod over Dan Snyder? Did Jaguars win out over the Washington Whatevers? Maybe.

Or perhaps bias and a mission to embarrass an organization that humiliates itself plenty was the desire of Florio and ProFootballTalk.com?
