FRISCO - Mike McCarthy is a busy man here inside The Star as he is supervising the installation of a new offensive system while planning to take over play-calling duties.

But can the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys take a little time to check out the ongoing drama involving his old “frienemy” in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers?

CowboysSI.com asked him.

I’m definitely aware of it,” McCarthy told us, mentioning that it’s just part of NFL “business” before cracking a sort-of joke.

“I probably know as much about it as you do!” McCarthy said.

And do what we know? In a column posted this morning, our Sports Illustrated colleague Albert Breer is offering an update on the high-profile trade plan between his likely new team the New York Jets and the Packers, who have tired of Rodgers’ act despite his shelf full of MVP trophies.

Breer said the trade will “certainly” be completed prior to the NFL Draft, which starts on April 27.

From Breer: “I think it could happen as early as this week, and certainly will get done before the draft. So have patience, Jets fans - your quarterback is coming.”

It is being reported by Yahoo! and Charles Robinson that the Jets and Packers are closing in on a deal including two high picks.

It’s all part of the soap opera that features Rodgers as the central character - and as McCarthy will add, despite their occasional conflicts during the decade and a half he was in charge in Green Bay, also part of a way to win a Super Bowl, as McCarthy and Rodgers did with the Packers.
