Could Dallas Cowboys Kicker Brandon 'Butter' Aubrey Set NFL Record with 70-Yard Field Goal?

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon "Butter" Aubrey continued his superb rookie season in the Sunday win against the Philadelphia Eagles as he hit four field goals, two of which were from 59 and 60 yards.

In what is turning out to be quite the story for Dallas after Cowboys Nation was nervous during preseason over the kicker situation - well, after 30 consecutively made field goals, there's no such nervousness.

Being a former MLS star who just recently picked up placekicking, the transition to becoming an NFL weapon could've been tricky. But ...

“It's all very fluid and natural from a physical standpoint,” Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel said. “I think that's pretty unique thing about his swing.

"And then from a mental standpoint, he's the same guy almost every day ... I haven't ever felt him stressful in a big moment, or overwhelmed by how we're doing. I think he's got a lot of great attributes to be potentially a great kicker.”

While Aubrey had time to practice his new craft in the USFL, moving into the NFL with the Cowboys no doubt meant that he might have to work on the finer details regarding his technique.

Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has gotten his NFL career off to a blistering start.

But Fassel reveals that he hasn't tinkered with Aubrey's mechanics. Instead, has just let him do his thing.

“I'm very aware not to mess with he’s approaching a swing and I don't think you'll ever hear me or see me go down that road," Fassel said. "Let's not mess with the good thing we got going.”

After Aubrey nailed his long-distance field goals on Sunday night (a double-doing that is unprecedented in NFL history) it took his season total from 50+ yards to 8 for 8.

Aubrey stated post-game that a 67- or 68-yard attempt would be "comfortable" for him. ... and that he could make kicks from 70.

If head coach Mike McCarthy sent Aubrey out to try a field goal that long, would there be a sense of nervousness from Fassel?

“I wouldn't be nervous at all," Fassel said. "I mean, at that point I'm sure in his brain I was like well hell I'm just going to swing as hard as I can to see what happens. ...

"But ... I would say 70 is in his range.”

We must admit: We kind of want to see him dial up the launch codes in a game in pursuit of Justin Tucker's record of 66 yards for a field goal.

But short of that? There's no doubt that Aubrey has gotten his rookie season off to the best possible start, and there's also no doubt that he's got dynamite in his right foot.
