It's '24th in 2024': Cowboys NFL Draft Spot Set After Playoff Loss

Following the events of Super Wild Card Weekend, the Dallas Cowboys have officially settled into their first-round spot at the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys were kicked off the NFC playoff bracket and onto the NFL Draft board.

After Sunday's 48-32 defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys will officially choose 24th in this spring's NFL Draft. That's last among the six Wild Card losers, as Dallas was the sole 12-game winner among them.

Provided it's not traded, the Cowboys will hold the 24th pick in the draft for the fifth time in franchise history and for the second time over the last three years. Such a slot has been fairly kind to them: three of the first four selections (Calvin Hill, Robert Jones, Dez Bryant) were invited to at least one Pro Bowl while Hill and Jones each had roles to play in Super Bowl runs. The outlier, Tyler Smith from 2022, has already bloomed into a mainstay on the Dallas offensive line.

That history, however, is likely of little consolation to the Cowboys, who are left asking questions and licking their wounds from Sunday's shellacking. Time will tell exactly what they'll look for with the 24th pick.

While they're likely in too deep to take their pick from the packed quarterback class if they opt to move on from Dak Prescott, the Cowboys will probably be on the lookout for defensive assistance after letting up 415 yards in Sunday's defeat. Dallas may also be in the market for a new primary running back if/when Tony Pollard opts to move on in free agency.

As it stands, the Cowboys own seven picks in the upcoming draft. Their latter selections currently land in the 56th, 87th, 171st, 212th, 230th, and 241st slots though that will likely be adjusted once compensatory selections are awarded later this year.

Dallas' fourth-rounder currently resides in San Francisco thanks to the Trey Lance trade while they hold an extra seventh-rounder thanks to an October 2022 deal that also brought in Jonathan Hankins.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held on Apr. 25-27 in Detroit. Chicago holds the top choice thanks to a trade with Carolina while Washington, New England, Arizona, and the Los Angeles Chargers round out the top five.
