Cowboys CeeDee Lamb Contract? 'Highest-Paid WR Always The Goal!'
LAS VEGAS - Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb wants to be a "Cowboy for Life,'' and that is the organization's plan as well, as the All-Pro just put together a stellar season featuring an NFL-best 135 receptions.
But Lamb, who is due for a contract extension as he is presently set to make $17.991 million on the fifth-year option in 2024, wants something else.
Lamb wants to be the highest-paid receiver in NFL history.
“I can’t give you ... numbers right now,'' Lamb said on teammate Micah Parsons' podcast here in Las Vegas. "But I’ll tell you this: (I want to be) one of the top paid receivers for sure, if not the (highest-paid receiver). ...
"That’s always the goal.”
Miami's Tyreek Hill is presently the highest-paid wideout with an annual per year average of $30 million. Minnesota's Justin Jefferson and Cincinnati's Ja’Marr Chase are also in the same class here in regard to talent, production and timetable.
Lamb was very frank about where he can be better ("I do need to grow up!'' he said of a maturity level that would aide him in team leadership) and he made it clear it is also about competing for a title while working alongside "my dog'' Dak Prescott.
Said Lamb, putting to bed the silly controversy created by his own mother, who said some nasty things about the quarterback: R"I have no beef with my quarterback. I love my dog, he knows that. … Dak can definitely lead us (to a Super Bowl). He just also needs other leaders. And that’s why I’m pointing at myself. I can help him. He’s already got so much on his plate. ...
The Cowboys have other contractual concerns, of course, including that of Micah Parsons, who is eligible for a contract extension, and that if Prescott. Parsons' deal will be different than the other two, though, cap-wise; in the cases of Dak and Lamb, their new deals will actually create room for Dallas' cap.
When the Cowboys selected Lamb with the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they openly noted that they had the Oklahoma product ranked as the No. 3 player in his class. They have turned out to be right. Lamb has turned out to be a superstar. ... a superstar that figures to be a centerpiece of Dallas' efforts toward a Super Bowl for the foreseeable future.
