Can Cowboys Change DeAndre Hopkins' Mind on Dak Prescott, Sign Free Agent WR?

If it was his trade choice to make, DeAndre Hopkins seems to have a handful of other options not named the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott. And now it is his choice to make.

FRISCO - "Rumor'' just became "reality.'' And now Arizona Cardinals star receiver DeAndre Hopkins has exited an eye-of-the-hurricane situation, where there was chaos all around him, but nothing materializing in the center.

Arizona just cut Hopkins. The Dallas Cowboys are now considered a landing spot, at least by oddsmakers - who make the Cowboys the 2/1 odds top landing spot.

But ... During a recent appearance on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, Hopkins hinted that an offseason Cowboys recruiting pitch and his own "talk to me!" response was all just a part of the pleasantries.

When asked about the top five quarterbacks he'd want to play with, Hopkins made known his love for guys like Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. After listing his top four, Hopkins found himself stumped at No. 5.

With all the Cowboys speculation, it seemed only right that Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott would make into the last slot. But when podcast host and former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall tried to help "Nuk" find an answer by suggesting Dak, Hopkins shook his head without much comment or thought and moved on.

Philadelphia Eagles fans certainly enjoyed the response, sharing the video to make sure everyone on Twitter got a chance to see what Hopkins thinks of Philly's rivals and Prescott in particular.

Sure, Hopkins' non-answer to the Dak question provided a minimal reaction that could be interpreted as "disrespect." But the rankings are hardly official and it's possible the soft-spoken Hopkins would've eventually got around to mentioning Prescott.

Even if he might be a step below the Mahomes, Allens, Hurts and Burrows of the world, Prescott is certainly deserving of some respect coming his way. He's third in Cowboys history in passing yards (24,943) and second in passing touchdowns (166) while currently holding a 61-36 record, the fifth-most wins ever by a Dallas quarterback.

Stats like these while playing for one of the most decorated and popular franchises in sports is nothing to scoff at. It feels reason enough to put Prescott in the elite conversation, something that Hopkins put an emphasis on when discussing what he desires in an organization, whether that be in Arizona or elsewhere.

"What I want is stable management upstairs," Hopkins said. "I think that’s something I haven’t really had the past couple years of my career coming from Houston and then to Arizona. … A QB who loves the game, a QB who brings everybody on board with him and pushes not just himself but everybody around him ... and a great defense. A great defense wins championships.”

Do the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott check these boxes? Hopkins doesn't appear too intrigued by the checks. ... but the Cowboys, it seems to us, should make an effort to convince him otherwise.
